Sunstone
Phenomenal. Intriguing. Metallic.
Sunstone is a transparent feldspar with glittery copper inclusions. Sunstones tend to have a sparkly, metallic-looking luster caused by flat, reflective inclusions. The most in-demand sunstone colors are deep red to deep green and intense bi-colors. Innovative jewelry designers often seek the subtle beauty of lesser-known but still intriguing and unique gemstones. Creative cuts are designed to highlight the gemstones glowing colors. In the state of Oregon in the early 1900s, there were reports of sunstone finds in ancient lava fields in a desert area called Warner Valley. Today, several mines produce enough of this unique gemstone to supply mass marketers, carvers and high-end jewelry designers.
