Majestic. Illuminated. Tranquil.

Moonstone is often associated with love, passion, fertility and great luck. The finest moonstones show a blue sheen against a colorless background. Moonstone’s unearthly glow is caused by the light scattering between microscopic layers of feldspar. According to Hindu mythology, moonstone is made of solidified moonbeams. Its internal structure scatters the light that strikes it, creating a phenomenon known as adularescence. The visual effect is reminiscent of the full moon shining through a veil of thin, high clouds. Moonstone was favored by many Art Nouveau jewelry designers. During the 1960’s and the 1990s, it became popular with the New Age designers. The most common world locations for the moonstone is India and Sri Lanka.

Moonstone is a birthstone for June along with pearl and alexandrite.
