Electric. Bright. Colorful.

Zircon’s name comes from the Persian word zargun, meaning gold colored. This December birthstone has a broad color palette that includes red, orange, yellow, brown, green and blue hues. During the Middle Ages, zircon was thought to lull one into a deep sleep and scare off evil spirits. Victorians had a fondness for blue zircon and can be found in English estate jewelry from the 1880s. Medieval Europeans believed that zircon promoted restful sleep and wealth, and that it dispelled evil spirits.

Zircon is a birthstone for the month of December, along with turquoise and tanzanite.

Jewelry care:

Zircon is rated “fair” for everyday wear with care. Avoid direct sunlight and exposure to heat which may cause color to fade. To clean, gently scrub with a soft toothbrush and a solution of mild dish soap and warm water.
